Don Juan Confronts a Husband
Good evening, signor, I desire your wife.
I seek her chamber, and she has agreed.
Please restrain yourself, for upon my life,
There is no action can this fate impede.
I invite you to defend your honor,
I wear a sword and live accordingly.
The grave has joined throngs in like endeavor,
You may find comfort in such company.
Yet am I in the favor of the King,
And there will I remain until I die,
For such indulgent blood runs through my veins
As clears my name in His Judicious Eye.
A word? Later is better for talking, my friend.
Alas, there is a dinner that I must attend.
